Chelsea officially safe from relegation after finally winning a Premier League match

Chelsea will be playing Premier League football next season as the Blues finally got their first win under Frank Lampard – saving them from the drop in the process

Chelsea are mathematically safe from relegation after finally winning a game under Frank Lampard – beating Bournemouth.

The Cherries could have inflicted a seventh straight defeat on the Blues when they welcomed Lampard’s side to the Vitality Stadium. However, they had their backs against the wall early doors when Connor Gallagher found the net inside ten minutes.

Matias Vina fired Bournemouth level, but Chelsea dug deep, and shocked the home side through Benoit Badiashile, before Joao Felix rounded off the afternoon. The Blues can now breath a heavy sigh of relief, as they’re mathematically safe from facing a season in the Championship.

It’s been a torrid season at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues starting the season slowly under Thomas Tuchel. The German was sacked after an embarrasing result against Dinamo Zagreb, to be replaced by ex-Brighton boss Graham Potter.

Potter, however, didn’t fare much better, and the Blues slumped down the table under the tenure of the Englishman. Potter was relieved of his duties last month, as Chelsea lost yet to another clash – this time at the hands of Aston Villa.

Lampard was then brought in to steady the ship, but it’s taken until his seventh game in charge for the Blues to finally win a game, saving them from the drop.

Aside from the Blues poor form on the pitch is their ever-growing changing room, with Chelsea spending big during Todd Boehly’s first season in charge.

Notable additions to the squad include Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandes, and Wesley Fofana – who all cost north of £80million. And that’s without mentioning the additions of Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea’s attention will now turn to their new boss – after interim manager Lampard helped steer them clear of the drop. Mauricio Pochettino looks set to land the role after Julian Naglesmann, who is out of work following his sacking by Bayern Munich, pulled himself out of the race.
