While pearls have long always been synonymous with class and sophistication, they have typically been reserved for mature women as symbol of elegance and good taste.
But more and more trendy A-listers have been seen wearing the accessory – with Vivienne Westwood’s £120 pearl choker gathering over 3.5million views on TikTok.
The revival of the pearl is in part down to becoming a ‘statement piece’ which can be paired with a monochrome ensemble for work or a formal function or with block colours for a more casual look.
No longer an outdated heirloom, the likes of Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and both Bella and Gigi Hadid have been seen wearing peal necklaces – while they’ve even been spotted on Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.

Pearls can be costly, but Rochelle revealed that teaming fake pearls with ‘classic and contemporary’ fashion pieces you already own can make them appear more expensive.
‘If you are heading to work, pearls could be work with a fitted shirt, tailored trousers, flat pumps, heels or boots.
‘If the pearls aren’t over the top looking and add a chic and sophisticated look, it doesn’t matter if they cost £2 or £200. It is down to the styling and outfit choice.’

Rochelle says the secret to making the look modern and fashionable is keeping the look simple, avoiding elaborate patterns and too much other jewellery.
‘You can keep the look minimalist and sleek and even with block colouring outfits. This can make the pearls standout and pick up the colours of your clothing’, she said.
‘They can also be practical as well, with so many designs out there, a simple bracelet or set of pearl earrings can add something to any outfit.
‘This won’t make them look dated or old fashioned as they become part of an everyday look.’

When it comes to choosing your pearls, Rochelle explained that freshwater and teardrop variations work well for laid back, everyday outfits, while a more outlandish look can be achieved with coloured pearls.
‘Pearls come in a range of styles, designs and colours. I would say that spherical pearls work well as pendants, simple necklace strands and stud earrings,’ she said.
‘Freshwater and teardrop pearls work really well for casual outfits and everyday wear. Coloured pearls can give you that edgy/fun look due to the rainbow iridescence colours.
‘When it comes to hair/accessories, simple pearls make it a statement. If you think wedding or formal occasion wear, it can be pearls simply added to the hair or buttons on an outfit.’
