It appears as though any bad blood between Taylor Swift, 28, and Katy Perry is officially over.
Fans of the pair were shocked earlier in the week after the 33-year-old beauty was one of the first to ‘like’ the Delicate singer’s Instagram post after she broke her silence on politics.
Speaking to Variety on the amfAR Gala carpet on Thursday night, she revealed just why she supported the social post.
Bad blood over? Fans of the pair were shocked earlier in the week after Katy Perry was one of the first to ‘like’ Taylor Swift’s political post, and revealed on Thursday why she was showing her support
‘Because she’s setting such a great example,’ she said.
Katy’s supportive response comes after Taylor has been taking to social media over the past few weeks to speak publicly for the first time about her political standings.
‘In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,’ she wrote in the lengthy post.
The reason why: Katy revealed she was quick to support Taylor’s political post: ‘because she’s setting such a great example’
‘I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.’
Taylor also continued to remind people to register to vote as well as vote during her acceptance speech at the American Music Awards last week.
And while Katy and the End Game singer haven’t had the steadiest friendship, particularly over the past few years, it seems as though any animosity is now over.
Using their platform for good: Both Taylor and Katy took to their large social media platforms on Friday to remind their combined 185 million followers about the upcoming elections
