Actor Tom Holland had to lose 12 kg in 10 weeks to play a drug addict in the movie “Cherry”.
The main character of the Spider-Man series said in the April issue of GQ magazine : “The coach made me eat only 500 calories and run 10 miles (about 16 km) a day. It was a brutal regimen. I have to wrap a special plastic bag for garbage around my body when I run to make my body sweat more.”
In Cherry , Holland plays a character who suffers from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and gradually becomes addicted to drugs. The actor said this is one of the most challenging roles in his career. After losing weight, he had to exercise to increase muscle to create a marine soldier shape.
The actor became seriously ill after achieving the required body shape, affecting both psychology. He said, “I’ve never used drugs. Learning the role made me go through a bad period physically and emotionally. I never want to face them again.”
Cherry is a film project directed by two Russo brothers ( Avengers: Endgame ). The film hit theaters in the US on February 26, receiving many compliments from critics for its acting, but was criticized at the writing stages.
