Recently, a mountain lion suddenly attacked a house in the US state of California, unexpectedly this family’s pet dog sacrificed his life to confront the lion to protect his owner, although this was not the case. This caused him to suffer injuries all over his body, but he was eventually healthy again. The brave action of the dog touched many people.
Engineer and designer Mary Padres (43) never thought her pet dog Rocky would act without hesitation. She said that Rocky was “very gentle”, “lovable and extremely gentle”.
Mary, who lives in La Verne, told The Epoch Times: “When I opened the door to the back garden, I saw a very large mountain lion staring at me. It is ready to hunt the dogs in my house.”
Ms. Mary runs a dog shelter, she was initially attracted by the mischief of the dog Rocky, so she adopted him. Now Rocky has used this method to repay the favor of saving his master’s life.
“He was only thinking about how to protect me,” said Mary. His instinct to try to save me made him do it, it was unbelievable.”
“The situation was very scary, he chased the mountain lion.” Both Rocky and the mountain lion quickly disappeared into the night.
Worried that the dog Rocky would be good or bad, Mary and her relatives ventured out to find him in the middle of the night, calling his name all the way. They suddenly heard barking but it disappeared very quickly.
“We were really scared at the time, we knew for sure there was something wrong,” Mary said.
They took flashlights to find Rocky in the mountainside area. After calling for half an hour, they suddenly heard very soft footsteps running towards them.
“We were a bit scared and didn’t know where the footsteps were coming from, but eventually we realized it was Rocky. It almost darted towards us, then weakly landed on our heads.”
Fortunately, when it was just morning, Mary’s family took the dog to the veterinary hospital for treatment. At that time, its wound was still bleeding, its breathing had become very weak.
According to Ms. Mary, the dog’s head and neck had very large bites, possibly the mountain lion had bitten the head and dragged it.
At that time, the veterinarian had stitched at least 30 stitches for the dog Rocky, he was completely healthy again after 3 weeks but was still a bit shy when going to the backyard.
Ms. Mary expressed that she was surprised and grateful for this faithful dog’s brave act. However, because the mountain lion regularly lurks around the residential area, Ms. Mary also wants to remind her neighbors of the impending danger, asking them to keep an eye on children and family pets.
