Arsenal news: Bukayo Saka sent a clear message on the dressing room’s mindset in the title race after victory over Everton
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has claimed that he and his teammates need to continue their push towards the Premier League title, irrespective of the current gap with Manchester City. The Gunners extended their lead at the top of the table to five points on Wednesday night, beating Everton in their game in hand over the current champions.
The 4-0 thrashing of the Toffees has come at an important time for Mikel Arteta after doubts crept in over their title challenge after a string of difficult results. The side’s response since has seen them take the campaign back into their grasp, with the games left starting to tick down.
“You know my answer,” Arteta responded when asked if his side are favourites to win the league. “What I like is that everyone has the enthusiasm to do it. We’re not gonna stop that and we have to promote that. The way to promote that is to look at this game and understand that we can do things better, especially in the first half. Make sure we prepare well against Bournemouth.”
With some key games to come, Saka was asked a similar type of question on the title race, claiming focus is fully on winning the upcoming clashes. When pointed out there was a five-point gap, the youngster simply laughed before telling Premier League Productions: “Not much to say about that [the lead]. We have to just focus on the next one…”
It shows the mindset of a side that is harnessing the energy of a title push, with all the adrenaline and feeling of winning big games, without looking too far ahead. It’s been the messaging from Arteta throughout the season and the players relaying that also shows how strong that mentality is within the dressing room.
Next up for the Gunners is a clash with Bournemouth, which will be huge in continuing their fine run of form as well as maintaining their lead at the top.
