Aston Villa will push for the signature of 25-year-old English striker Tammy Abraham, a target for Manchester United, in the summer.
According to 90min, Premier League club Aston Villa want to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham in the summer of 2023. The Villans are interested in bringing the English striker, a target for Manchester United, back to the English top flight ahead of next season. The Giallorossi will demand £40 million to sell him.
The 25-year-old joined Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma back in the summer of 2021 for over £30 million. He penned a five-year-long deal with the club. Of late, there has been a lot of interest in his services. And, as per the recent reports he might be on his way out in the summer.
Abraham has been in decent form ever since joining the Italian club. The former Chelsea striker was on fire in the first season with the club. However, his second season has not been that explosive, although he has still done a decent job.
The AS Roma striker scored 27 goals in all competitions last season. 17 of his strikes came in the Serie A, and he played an integral part in helping his team win the Europa Conference League. In the ongoing season, things have slowed down a touch, as he has found the back of the net just seven times in 30 outings.
Aston Villa are interested in signing the 25-year-old striker, who was a part of their squad back in the day. He joined them on loan from Chelsea for the 2018/19 season. The England international enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at the club.
Abraham’s contract at Roma ends in the summer of 2026. But as per the reports they are ready to discuss the departure of the forward ahead of next season. They will be happy to let the former Chelsea forward leave the club for a fee of over £40 million.
Chelsea do have a buy-back clause in case they want to bring him back to Stamford Bridge. However, it seems they are not interested in him, despite being on the lookout for a new number nine for the 2023/24 season.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have not had the best of times in the ongoing season. They are currently set for a mid-table finish and will look to add a few players to their ranks to push for a European spot next season. Unai Emery is interested in the 25-year-old and wants him at Villa Park.
However, it won’t be that easy a task for Emery’s team to sign the forward. They will face competition from Premier League giants Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s men will likely qualify for the Champions League and that might give them an edge in luring the forward. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United come out on top in this transfer tussle for the signature of the English striker.
Erik ten Hag makes ‘huge ambitions’ claim amid Manchester United ownership talks
Erik ten Hag has “huge ambitions” amidst Manchester United ownership talks
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has “huge ambitions” from the club amidst talks about the change in ownership at the Old Trafford side.
Earlier in the season, the Glazers were looking to ‘explore strategic alternatives’ regarding the Red Devils. Now, they have received bids from the likes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is the owner of INEOS. Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is also interested.
Speaking to the media via the Evening Standard about the potential takeover of United, Ten Hag is focused on taking the Red Devils back to the top. The Dutch manager wants to build a competitive team that is capable of fighting for major titles.

“What we want is to have a good team, a team that’s competing for the highest [honours] in the world. We have huge ambitions and that’s what we want to fulfil.”
Under the Glazer family’s ownership over the years, the Old Trafford side have fallen down their pedestal. We last won the English top-flight title in 2012/13, Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge.

Since then, things have gone a bit downhill for the Manchester-based club. Our recruitment has left a lot to be desired in recent times.
Established managers like Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have come and gone. However, they have not been able to restore the past glory of United.
At the end of the previous campaign, Ten Hag was appointed the Red Devils’ head coach. The Dutch manager had a shaky start to life in the Old Trafford dugout. However, he has managed to turn things around quickly.
United have gone five years without a trophy. However, the former Ajax head coach has the chance to break that drought with the Carabao Cup final later this month.
The Red Devils are also performing well in the league. We are in a good position and on course to finish in a top-four spot. Hopefully, any potential new owners will see the progress we have made under Ten Hag and will back the manager to build a world-class team.
