Cameron’s Avatar sequel Avatar: The Way of Water has already broken multiple records as the movie recently crossed the $2 billion mark and stands at #4 in the worldwide rankings. Initially, after the release of the first Avatar movie back in 2009, James Cameron announced that the franchise will run up to 5 total movies as the movie hit ranking 1 worldwide in terms of box office collection.

James Cameron revealed that the second Avatar movie had a break-even point of around $1.4 billion, though the movie far surpassed this point, he was concerned if making the rest of the movies would be possible. The Avatar director said that while filming for the second movie, maximum scenes for the third were already filmed and are currently in the editing phase. The movie is set to release be released on 20 December 2024. “One Avatar every two years”, was the official statement made by Disney, which means that Avatar 4 will most likely be released on December 18, 2026, and Avatar 5 on December 22, 2028.
Only Leonardo DiCaprio Can Save Cameron’s Avatar 3
James Cameron had initially planned to break each of his Avatar movie records with its successor installment. Now, as the first movie was such a banger at the box office, Cameron begged other franchise movies to break his record before he released the sequel so that he could break his record again. Even after such a long time, Cameron stands by his word and hopes to create new records and break existing ones with his otherworldly productions.
