‘Suits me’: Christopher Nkunku shares where he thinks is his best position before joining Chelsea this summer

In an interview with Football Manager, Christopher Nkunku stated that he feels his best position is as an attacking midfielder.

Shakhtar Donetsk v RB Leipzig: Group F - UEFA Champions League

The current RB Leipzig man is all set to become a Chelsea player when this campaign comes to an end.

The Frenchman has signed a pre-contract with the Blues, who held a secret medical with the player after missing out on signing him last summer.

He will be arriving at Stamford Bridge off the back of what was an unprecedented January rebuild at the club.

Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke came in to the club in an attempt to address the attacking areas that had been severely lacking so far this season.

Whilst Felix has been brought in on loan at this stage, there is a good chance his time at the club is made permanent if he impresses for the rest of the campaign.

Nkunku describes his best position

There is plenty of excitement about his return from suspension, with him free to feature against West Ham at the weekend.

However, his favoured position behind the striker would clash with Nkunku’s, who has admitted that he feels he thrives in that area.

He said: “I think that (attacking midfield) is a position that suits me well. Close to the goal behind a striker. That describes me as a player nicely so I always like playing in this role.”

With Kai Havertz also playing a lot better in that position as apposed to as a striker, it could cause an issue for Graham Potter at the helm.

It is going to be extremely difficult to feature all three in a starting XI, and if Felix does become a full-time Chelsea player, the German could be in trouble.

He has previously been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, with him seeming the perfect replacement for Thomas Muller when he leaves.
