Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has urged the club to sign a Premier League midfielder to help them get back to their best ready for next season, according to a reporter.
There is plenty of talk surrounding Liverpool right now after their latest defeat to Wolves on Saturday. The Reds were beaten 3-0 at Molineux. Joel Matip scoring an own goal before Craig Dawson and Ruben Neves bagged for the home side.
That result leaves Liverpool 10th in the league, 11 points off fourth-placed Newcastle with just one game in hand to try and narrow that gap.
Pressure is mounting on Klopp to turn things around. That is despite him having credit in the bank due to his huge previous success with Liverpool.
A report from CaughtOffside claims the Liverpool board are ‘likely’ to sack Klopp if one major event happens.
Pundit Stan Collymore, meanwhile, believes the German will have four major teams queueing up for his signature if he was axed by the Merseyside giants.
Liverpool’s hole in the midfield is obvious and it was once again capitalised on by Wolves. At times, the trio of Naby Keita, Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic were left out of the match when Wolves simply played one pass straight through them.
While the area to strengthen has been clear to Liverpool fans for some time, the club is yet to actually do anything about it.
Jurgen Klopp ‘request’ emerges
They have to strengthen the midfield this summer to help them get back in the mix for league titles and trophies. And Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has now suggested the Prem star they will likely target.
During an interview with GiveMeSport, he also revealed Klopp’s demand to Liverpool officials.
“Klopp requested a midfielder already in January and the list for the summer to date is practically the same,” Galetti said. “Moises Caicedo is under the Liverpool radar.”
This fits in with what CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs exclusively told TEAMtalk on Monday. Jacobs says Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are all plotting potential bids for Caicedo in the summer.
And, as part of a double boost for Liverpool, Arsenal might be end up prioritising a different midfielder instead. Plus, Brighton are more likely to consider Caicedo’s departure at the end of the season, something they were not willing to do in January.
Of course, Chelsea submitted a £55million offer for Caicedo in the winter window. This was rejected out of hand by Brighton, who said the midfielder would not go for any price.
Arsenal thought they could still prize Caicedo away from the Amex though and therefore launched two proposals. The first came in at £60m, while the second was worth £70m.
Caicedo even handed in a transfer request to try and help the move go through. But Brighton remained strong and rejected all advances for their player, and he remains on the south coast.
However, it sounds like that could change at the end of the campaign. And it would not be a surprise if Anfield became Caicedo’s next destination.
Meanwhile, a Liverpool player is ‘on the verge’ of leaving this summer, according to one journalist.
