It’s a busy time for the Artist Formerly Respected as Kanye West. Although I’m not really sure what his job is these days since he lost most of his business partners and 98% of his industry clout at the end of last year after showing the world his entire ass, which had the words “Hitler’s Bitch” tattooed across the cheeks.
He’s so busy, in fact, that he apparently hasn’t had time to hire new legal representation and finds himself without counsel as he faces several lawsuits, two of them federal. But he has managed to find time to obtain a new “mystery blonde,” that he’s been “spotted with around Los Angeles,” according to TMZ.
Sheesh, TMZ. Sexist much? As if a mysterious blonde woman who enjoys “sharing a meal and good conversation,” can’t also be a lawyer taking meetings with a “repugnant client” (an actual term for clients like Kanye, I AM DIE) at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. Ever heard of a little movie called Legally Blonde?
According to Business Insider, Kanye “risks the possibility of losing the cases through default judgments.” Kanye’s facing a class-action lawsuit from “hundreds of employees who allege they were overworked and underpaid while working on Ye’s 2019 opera ‘Nebuchadnezzar’,” as well as a copyright infringement case for a sample he allegedly failed to clear on Donda 2.
The rapper, who goes by Ye, continues to ghost his former lawyers and still hasn’t found a new one, court filings reviewed by Insider show.
Meanwhile, lawsuits against him are marching forward. If Ye doesn’t lawyer up, he risks the possibility of losing the cases through default judgments.
In two cases playing out against him in federal court, Ye remains lawyerless and hasn’t communicated with his old lawyers, who were tasked with updating judges about his progress in getting new ones. In another case in Los Angeles county court, lawyers have been trying to track down Ye since October to serve him with a lawsuit.
In a Monday-night court filing for one of the federal cases, Ye’s former lawyers at the firm Greenberg Traurig said they didn’t have any update for the judge about his attempts to hire new lawyers, attributing it to a “breakdown in communications.”
Ye, the filing suggested, has completely shut them out.
Um, duh. It’s like, did they even try him on his shoe phone? Kanye’s shoes aren’t ugly, for ugly’s sake. Everybody knows the best way to get a hold of Kanye is to ring him on his private Yeezy. He will pick up right away if he’s not actively walking. But there’s no time for that now. The judge in the $6 million class action suit gave Kanye a deadline of Today O-clock to respond.
In November, following a series of antisemitic tirades by Ye, Greenberg Traurig asked the judge for permission to withdraw from representing Ye and his companies Very Good Touring and West Brands, which are also defendants in the case.
US District Judge George H. Wu tentatively allowed Greenberg Traurig to withdraw. He said Ye and his companies had until January 12 to get new lawyers.
TMZ says that Kanye has been laying low since his appearance on InfoWars and speculate that he might be living at the Waldorf Astoria, which might explain why a process server for yet another lawsuit hasn’t been able to find him yet. BI reports:
The lawsuit was filed against Ye in October by his former business manager, who alleges he owes $4.5 million in unpaid bills.
Attorneys at the firm Sklar Kirsh said in a court filing on Monday that they hadn’t been able to serve him the lawsuit. Ye doesn’t have any lawyers to receive service on his behalf, and he can’t be reached at several addresses associated with him, they said, asking the judge for an extension.
Gosh, how hard could it be? Walk your ass over to the Waldorf Astoria, look for a mystery blonde sitting next to a man holding his enormous clown shoe up to his ear and talking into it like it’s a telephone, give him a Nazi salute and when he moves to return it, hand him the damn papers!
