Manchester City striker Erling Haaland hailed Youssoufa Moukoko as “the biggest talent in the world” during their time together at Borussia Dortmund amid Newcastle United’s interest in the forward.
ChronicleLive have reported that Eddie Howe’s side are looking into signing the talented 18-year-old on a free transfer in the summer. Dortmund are believed to be desperate to try and convince their star to sign a new contract before its expiry at the end of the current season, with Newcastle hopeful of finding a way to tempt him to Tyneside.
Moukoko played alongside Haaland on 20 occasions during their time together in Germany. Since his move, the Man City striker has been scoring at an unrivalled rate in the Premier League – leading the way with 21 goals in 16 league appearances this season.
At 22-years-old, the former Dortmund striker has hit the ground running following his arrival in the English top-flight. Having individually outscored the total number of goals from clubs such as Chelsea, Aston Villa and West Ham – the 6ft 4in striker certainly knows what it takes to be an instant success in the Premier League.
Newcastle fans therefore will be delighted to hear the glowing review that Haaland gave Moukoko during their time together at the Signal Iduna Park. Even though the German international was only 16, the City star knew just how a good a player he could go on to be.
“I think he’s the biggest talent in the world right now. 16 years and one day, that’s quite amazing. He has a big career ahead of him,” Haaland told ESPN.
When asked about his own talent in comparison, he added: “I’m over 20 years, so I’m getting old now, so that’s how it is.”
Although Haaland’s age-related comments can be taken with a pinch of salt, there is still be plenty of reason to be excited over Moukoko’s potential move to Newcastle
