According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcus Thuram is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the 25-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach attacker, who reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final with France, in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
Marcus Thuram has come leaps and bounds since joining Borussia Monchengladbach in July 2019 from Guingamp. The Frenchman was a promising young forward three and a half years ago. But he has been one of the most enterprising attackers in the Bundesliga during that period. At the same time, the player has also established a foothold in the French national squad.
The 25-year-old is enjoying a superb 2022/23 season, amassing 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances thus far. Thuram also reached the FIFA World Cup 2022 final with France, who failed to beat Argentina last month. Meanwhile, the player seems set to leave Gladbach as a free agent in the summer after entering the final six months of his deal. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid.
Real Madrid might need to bring in a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window for various reasons. Firstly, Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Hazard has failed to make his mark at Real Madrid, Asensio is in the final six months of his contract.
So Los Blancos might need a player who can compete with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes on the flanks. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti will have concerns about Karim Benzema’s fitness and will need a backup for the Frenchman. After all, the veteran striker has faced a few injury troubles this term.
Thuram has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, considering he can play across the frontline. The reigning La Liga champions have shown interest in other attackers like Alejandro Garnacho. But a versatile attacker like Thuram is better suited for Ancelotti’s needs.
The latest update comes in the wake of suggestions that Real Madrid had turned down the chance to sign the 25-year-old World Cup finalist. But a Bosman move for Thuram makes sense, keeping in mind his exploits thus far this season.
