Erling Haaland has more Premier League goals than the Chelsea squad combined

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has netted more Premier League goals this season than the entire Chelsea squad put together.

The 22-year-old has been in monstrous form this year after joining Pep Guardiola’s squad last summer from Borussia Dortmund.

In just 15 games in the league, the Norwegian has already scored 21 times – the fastest player to reach that total in the Premier League – and also has three assists.

He has failed to score in just three matches in that time period, against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Brentford, but Chelsea will be shaking in their boots on Thursday night when the two teams meet.

In comparison, the Blues have netted a total of 20 times between the entire squad with Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling tied for top scorers on four each.

It is a measly total for a team that spent nearly £300million in the summer while they find themselves 10th in the Premier League, 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Chelsea will host City on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge, which has been a happy hunting ground for the Premier League champions in recent years.

The last two times that City have turned up in west London, they have left with all three points and face a Blues side that are low on confidence.

In their last seven Premier League outings, Chelsea have won just one and their first game of 2023 ended in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

And Haaland is expected to pile on the misery while City have already been told by Guardiola that they cannot afford any more slip-ups as they chase top-placed Arsenal down – who are eight points ahead of them.

The Catalan coach said: “We have to reduce the gap by playing good and winning games. But they will get more than 100 points if they keep up this average and we will not catch them.

“We have to be almost perfect and hope they drop points. Last night, they were still excellent.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Potter has found himself under pressure already despite only taking the job in September but has insisted City have plenty to worry about as well.

The ex-Brighton boss said: “We have to play well ourselves – that is the key. Then you have to understand the quality they have and try to stop it. It sounds simple when you condense it down, but the reality isn’t so straightforward.

“They are a top team, but we can cause them a problem. We can be ourselves and try to play well and put them under pressure. We need to use Stamford Bridge and then see what happens.”
