Roberto Firmino has become the latest member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to be honoured with a mural in the Anfield area ahead of his final game for Liverpool later this month.

The Brazilian forward, who has taken the decision to end his eight-year, trophy-laden stay at Anfield when his contract expires at the end of next month, despite the pleas of his manager, has won every top-level trophy available since making the move to Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015.

Firmino’s Anfield swansong came on Saturday afternoon when Aston Villa made the trip to L4, with emotional scenes and a lap of honour coming after the final whistle of the 1-1 draw.

Firmino, who has made over 300 appearances under Klopp, will be joined by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner who are also ending their careers on Merseyside when their contracts expire during the summer months.

With Firmino’s mural now unveiled on Rockfield Road, the ECHO has decided to take a look at some of the other murals in the Anfield area…

Trent Alexander-Arnold – A boy whose dream came true

Trent Alexander-Arnold became the first member of Jurgen Klopp’s to be celebrated with a mural in the Anfield region in the weeks after winning the Champions League in June 2019.

Upon helping the Reds secure their sixth European Cup with a 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Alexander-Arnold famously said: “I’m just a normal lad from Liverpool whose dream has just come true” and such words have been etched onto Sybil Road next to his mural.

Jordan Henderson – Premier League-winning captain

Just 12 months after the Reds’ European success and captain Jordan Henderson’s efforts in helping secure a first league title since 1990 were rewarded with a similar mural on the other side of Sybil Road.

Henderson, who was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year in the summer of 2020, was present at the unveiling of the Redmen TV-commissioned MurWalls mural and later added his signature.

Ian St John and Roger Hunt – Two of Billy Shankly’s best

Also on the popular site of Sybil Road is a mural paying homage to the iconic former Liverpool strike duo of Ian St John and Roger Hunt and the role they played in helping the Reds win their first-ever FA Cup in 1965.

Billy Shankly’s side beat Leeds United 2-1 at Wembley in May of 1965, with Ian St John and Roger Hunt scoring the goals in the capital as Liverpool ended their drought for the highly-coveted trophy.

The MurWalls artwork is signed off by the words of Shankly who later reflected on the Reds’ triumph by saying: “That was the greatest moment of my life, winning the cup. Not just for me, but for the people of Liverpool.”

Sadly both St John and Hunt passed away in 2021.

Ian Rush – Liverpool’s greatest-ever goalscorer

It’s only fitting that Liverpool’s greatest-ever goalscorer would be honoured with a mural, right?

That’s exactly why Ian Rush finds his face – and incredible record of 346 goals in 660 games – pictured outside of Anfield on the corner of Anfield Road.

The image used for Rush’s mural, which was unveiled by MurWalls in May 2022, is his iconic celebration during the 1986 FA Cup final between Liverpool and Everton which the Reds won 3-1.
