Manchester United are reportedly willing to slash Harry Maguire’s price tag in order for him to leave this summer

Manchester United have reportedly reduced their asking price for Harry Maguire in a bid to offload the defender at the end of the season.

Maguire has rapidly fallen down the pecking order under boss Erik ten Hag this term, having made just seven Premier League starts and fifteen appearances in total. In all competitions, Maguire has made 30 appearances this season, however, his last full 90-minutes came in the disastrous 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final second leg in April that saw United crash out 5-2 on aggregate.

Despite the club experiencing something of a revival this season, having already lifted the Carabao Cup in February as well as reaching the FA Cup final where they will face fierce rivals Manchester City, Maguire’s own United career has largely stagnated.

He remains a regular fixture in Gareth Southgate’s England side but, at club level, has found himself behind the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and even Luke Shaw, all of whom Ten Hag appears to prefer at centre back.

As a result, it now seems the Red Devils are willing to part with the 30-year-old for a reduced fee in order to facilitate his exit, despite his contract running for another two years.

According to Football Transfers, United will accept offers of £40million for Maguire’s services, roughly half what they paid Leicester City to bring him to Old Trafford in 2019.

And of the sides thought to be interested in the England international, it seems West Ham and Tottenham are potential takers.

However, any serious interest from Tottenham is believed to hinge on whether Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked by the Foxes in early April, takes charge of the north London club in the summer.

Although, at present, current Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot looks to be the favourite for the Spurs job, which would make Maguire’s possible move less likely.

Meanwhile, in the other direction, it appears Harry Kane could still be on his way to Old Trafford in the next transfer window.

The £100million valued striker has a year remaining on his current contract, but remains high on Ten Hag’s shopping list, despite former United striker Andy Cole insisting the signing of Kane would be a mistake.

United’s have three Premier League fixtures remaining against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham as they look to secure a Champions League spot next season.

Then, on June 3 they take on City at Wembley and a shot at a domestic cup double.
