It was probably just another day in the life of a world famous recording artist.
But the scenes in New York last night, as Kanye West headed to an event for Fashion’s Night Out, were more like something out of an action movie.
Police and security had to escort Mr West through a huge mass of screaming crowds that had amassed to see the rapper in the SoHo district of New York where he was attending an event at the Mercer Hotel.
Happy man: Kanye released his new single Good Friday last night, and brought SoHo in New York to a standstill as he was mobbed by hordes of fans
Fan frenzy: The lively scenes as the rapper entered the Mercer Hotel in New York for a Fashion’s Night Out event yesterday
The crowds completely blocked the street and stopped traffic in an attempt to see the rapper.
Kanye, who appeared in a great mood, posted a comment on his Twitter page about the experience.
‘Just shut Soho down… s*** is crazy 2nt!!! This is the best night of my life uuuum so far …I know the city getting ready!’
The event Kanye was referring to was the release of a new single ‘Good Friday’ featuring Kid Cudi and Common which he debuted last night ahead of his new album release in November.
West, 33, is also scheduled to perform at this weekends MTV Video Music Awards being held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
At last years awards Kanye caused a outrage by storming the stage as Taylor Swift was accepting her award for video of the year.
Kanye believed that the trophy should have gone to his friend Beyonce who was nominated for her video for Single Ladies in the same category.
West grabbed the mic from Taylor in the middle of her acceptance speech to tell everyone just what he was thinking.
Mob mentality: Fans crowded round the cars and blocked the street in an attempt to see the rapper
‘Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,’ said West, as an embarrassed Beyonce looked on from the audience.
Taylor later talked of the experience saying: ‘I was standing on the stage and I was really excited because I had just won the award.
‘And then I was really excited because Kanye West was on the stage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.’
The rapper has claimed to have turned over a new leaf since the incident, making several public apologies to Taylor via his Twitter page and in an interview with Jay Leno.
