When it comes to French car manufacturers, most car players think of popular brands such as Peugeot, Renault, and Bugatti. However, further back in the past, France used to have a famous car company, Facel Vega.
Although now, Facel Velga is no longer on the market, but the classic models of the French car company are still sought after by many collectors. One of them is the Facel II test car that will be auctioned off in May.
According to a notice from the auction house, the Facel II prototype was built in 1959 and is based on the HK500 model. While most of the prototypes are not geared towards luxury, the Facel II has leather and wood coverings in the cabin. The car is equipped with a three-spoke wood-paneled steering wheel, chrome-plated gear lever and 8 different gauges.
Since its launch, the car has been carefully stored. It was not until February 1965 that founder Jean Daninos registered the car. Unfortunately, not long after, Facel Vega officially went bankrupt and 3 months later, Facel II was handed over to the second owner.
Although it is more than 60 years old, the car has a quite shiny and new appearance. Featured with the grille, the headlights are stacked on top of each other, this is the distinct design language of Facel Vega.
The car is a sporty 2-door version with glossy black paint, many details on the exterior are thick chrome plated such as front / rear bumpers, A-pillar contours, B-pillars.
The model is equipped with a 6.3L V8 engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The car has undergone a comprehensive overhaul from 2020 to 2022. Technicians also had to redo most of the body, but that still did not affect the value of the car.
The auction house estimates the car will be auctioned for a price ranging from 750,000 to 1.1 million USD. This is quite a high price for a classic car.
