Say hola to Delola! Jennifer Lopez, who never met a product she couldn’t J.Lo-ify, just launched her latest business, and it’s got us, well, buzzed.
In her “On the JLo” newsletter, the actor-singer-entrepreneur opened up about her decision to create a line of tasty low-calorie craft cocktails, writing, “I set out to create what I felt was missing… something that’s easy with better ingredients, because having fun shouldn’t be hard.
“Something that you could just pour over ice, right out of the bottle, ready to enjoy with some of my favourite flavours and natural botanicals like elderflower, berries, hibiscus, orange, and of course, passionfruit. Delola is a gluten-free, full-flavored spritz, premium spirit-based mixology-level cocktail, with about the same alcohol content as a glass of wine. It’s a first-of-its-kind ready-to-enjoy cocktail that’s bubbly and yummy.”
On The JLoThe name of the brand, Delola, is inspired by Lopez’s nickname, a kind of chill alter-ego she uses among friends when entertaining. “I love to entertain,” she told People. “I love throwing parties at my house. I’m always the first one on the dance floor at all of the industry events and at times, on vacation, dancing on the table. That is kind of who Lola is. The way we came up with the name for Delola was really about being the carefree, fun side of who I am.” Delola literally translates to “from Lola,” and like, Jennifer Lopez → Lo → Lola, I get it.
This brand is part of a micro trend among celebrities and influencers. If you’re not doing a skincare line (or, in Lopez’s case, even if you are), chances are you’ve got a beverage. Ryan Reynolds has Aviation Gin, Kendall Jenner has 818 Tequila, and Blake Lively has Betty Buzz, which isn’t alcoholic but you can use it as a mixer. The Coppolas have wine…let’s not even get into what happened to Brad and Angie’s winery. Do we owe Bethenny Frankel props for making this trend accessible with Skinnygirl margaritas?
