If the Vanilla Girl aesthetic and the now-viral trend for lipgloss nails got together and had a love child, it would be Jennifer Lopez’s new ‘invisible nude’. The nails are pretty, subtle and with a your-nails-but-better vibe, they couldn’t capture our current minimalist mood more.
Nude nails are a classic and a perennial celebrity favourite. They add polish to a jeans and white T-shirt combo, and yet also won’t outshine the most glamorous red carpet dress or jewellery. Jennifer Lopez’s manifestations alone have served up several Pinterest-worthy manicure ideas.
So what exactly are invisible nude nails? Simply put, they retain the same DNA as your average nude nail in terms of a neutral palette of hushed shades that match your skin tone. But unlike traditional nude nails, which are typically opaque and creamy, they follow in the footsteps of the recent Vanilla French nails trend with a similar milky-thin texture. Like the nail equivalent of a see through dress, it involves painting on a barely-there, semi-sheer polish with heaps of shine that allows your nail bed to peak through.
As ever, Mrs Affleck worked with her manicurist, Tom Bachik, to create the invisible nude nails (aka Pretty Girl Nails), which closely resemble the recent lipgloss nails she wore to the premier of her new movie Shotgun Wedding – just with a more everyday twist.
For that red carpet event, Tom added length to her nails with the Apres Nails Gel-X Maisie Sculpted Stiletto Tips before painting on “a semi sheer high gloss nude”, he says, and adding a silver glitter tip.
While Tom hasn’t released the specific product line up for his new nail look, he has tagged Apres Nail Official in the image, a brand he often uses on his celebrity clients.
Jennifer’s nails are filed into a stiletto shape but with a softened tip while the peachy, slightly pearlescent nude colour is an almost perfect match to her skin tone, giving the illusion of longer, sleeker fingers. Essie Gel Couture in Sew Me Nude and OPI Infinite Shine Long-Wear Nail Polish in Future is You are both similar shades and textures.
