Owner of the world’s ‘fattest cat’ hits back at critics who claim she’s deliberately overfed her pet to make the feline stand out on Instagram
A cat owner has hit back at online trolls after being accused of overfeeding her enormous pet.
A pudgy feline, named Liznya The Cat, shot to fame on instagram thanks to her cute but grumpy face, but negative comments soon started to roll in regarding her weight.
The Russian cat owner, who has gained more than 9,500 followers on the feline’s instagram account, hit back at keyboard warriors saying the accusations of cruelty were ‘sad to read.’
Instagram users who come across the feline’s page have labelled Liznya owners as ‘sick’, claiming they’ve deliberately overfed her to turn her into an Instagram curiosity.
One person said: ‘It’s gonna die any day.’
While another asked: ‘Why did you let her get this big?’
The owner, keen to clear up the confusion surrounding the cat’s diet and routine, wrote an Instagram post that explained why Liznya had reached such a large size.
Speaking about the trolled kitty they said: ‘There are some misunderstandings. So let’s make them clear. We have never tried to overfeed Liznya.
‘Some people wrote we do it on purpose. How do you imagine that? She even refuses to eat any other food than her diet food.
‘It is true that our cat was pregnant and spayed after it, but we do not claim this is the exact reason for her to become obese.’
They explained further that Liznya’s pregnancy exacerbated her weight gain and she had made several visits to the vet since.
During her visits, the veterinarian has prescribed many different diet cat foods until one had started to work.
They said: ‘She seems to have stopped gaining weight with her current plan, but still there are problems with losing it.
‘We can’t show her to a vet too frequently, but we will definitely do it again and again if needed.
‘We do not support any kinds of abuse and it is not OK to threaten the owners. And we also can’t ignore that some point out that our cat was slimmer in 2020. It is true, but she did not gain much weight since then, look at other old pictures taken from a different angle to make sure.
‘And yes, Liznya can walk, she even loves to play hunting! We agree she needs to be more active to lose her weight.
‘If some people still do not believe the above, well, that is your opinion, but please do not spread false information and do not wish the owners to die. It is a bit sad to read messages like this.’
Later, in a highlighted instagram story dedicated to talking about Liznya’s weight management, the owner showed herself serving out 29g of Royal Canin diet cat food for her pet’s meal.
