Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi, on Saturday evening, etched his name ever further into the history books of European football.
PSG, and Messi, were of course back in action a short time ago.
After securing a timely return to winning ways away to Nice last time out, the capital giants welcomed high-flying Lens to the Parc des Princes, for a top-of-the-table Ligue 1 clash.
And, when all was said and done, Christophe Galtier’s troops took a major step towards retaining their crown.
This came as goals on the part of all of Kylian Mbappe, Vitinha and Lionel Messi guided PSG to the right side of a 3-1 result.
As alluded to above, though, for one member of the French champions’ setup, his latest strike did not only prove significant in guiding the club to their latest three-point haul.
Messi, for his part, added PSG’s third of the night against Lens, latching onto a wonderful touch from Kylian Mbappe before picking out the far corner in trademark style:
And, in the process, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner secured for himself yet another piece of history.
As confirmed post-match, Messi has now found the net on an eye-watering 495 occasions across Europe’s top five leagues.
This is the same number as was managed by long-time rival and previous sole record-holder Cristiano Ronaldo, before his move to Saudi Arabia.
Messi, as a result, requires just one more league goal before the season is out to establish himself as the outright all-time leading scorer in Europe’s top five divisions.
