Move over, Antonio Banderas! There’s a new “masked man” in town, and he’s a natural to play “Zorro” in the next Hollywood blockbuster. The only snafu? He’s a cat.
Meet Boy, also known as Zorro. He’s an 11-month-old Persian cat who lives in Banjarmasin, Indonesia with his owner, Indraini Wahyudin Noor. Boy has become a bit of an online celebrity thanks to his very distinctive (and familiar!) markings.
When Indraini shared photos of Boy on TikTok and Instagram, people recognized the black hat and mask combo that resembles the fictional character of Zorro. This masked hero was created by American pulp writer Johnston McCulley in 1919 and has been the subject of both television shows and films for decades.
Zorro is Spanish for “fox,” and the moniker applies to both the sly hero and the cat version! Indraini gained thousands of fans with videos showing Boy prowling around his neighborhood.
Indraini says Boy is a very pampered pet, and he loves to be cuddled and held by his owners.
“The cat’s name is Boy, but many people call him Zorro,” Indraini explained. “I have many cats but this is the only one who has a mask on his face. He’s my favourite cat!”
Nature took its course at Indraini’s cat menagerie, and Boy is now a proud papa! He bred with another black-and-white cat, so their babies are all cute versions of the same theme… except for one. One kitten is Boy’s mini me!
It’s the son of Zorro, and he’s the spitting image of his masked dad.
Naturally, Indraini had to name the kitten Bandit, after his famous father. Now he’s getting even more followers due to the sweet father-son dynamic. People can’t get enough videos of Boy and Bandit playing together!
We could watch these cuties play all day long. Indraini says he often plays the “Zorro” theme song for his little masked heroes, and they seem to enjoy it!
