Leicester would be interested to know the Graham Potter’s immediate plans following his sacking by Chelsea.
Potter was dismissed on Sunday – the same day as Leicester showed Brendan Rodgers the door – after only seven months at Stamford Bridge. But he was admired by the Leicester hierarchy long before he moved to Chelsea.
It is unclear whether Potter would want to jump straight back on to the horse but if Leicester were to survive this season, he would likely be top of their long-term list.
Rodgers was informed his four-year reign would end at a meeting at the club’s plush £90million training headquarters on Sunday morning, following Leicester’s dire display in losing 2-1 at Crystal Palace.
Sportsmail was first to indicate on its social media channels that Rodgers was on borrowed time and an announcement was made at about 1.30pm.
Graham Potter has been sacked as the manager of Chelsea after a disastrous six-month spell
Now Srivaddhanaprabha, known as Khun Top, is on his way to Leicester and may attend Tuesday’s home clash with Aston Villa, with first-team coach Adam Sadler and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell in interim charge.
Rodgers, 50, had a compensation clause worth about £10million written into the five-and-a-half-year deal he signed in December 2019, but with his departure described as a ‘mutual agreement’, the exact nature of the settlement is unclear.
It is thought Khun Top and his most senior colleagues, chief executive Susan Whelan and director of football Jon Rudkin, do not yet have a definite idea of Rodgers’ successor. It may be that Sadler and Stowell remain in post if they oversee an immediate improvement.
Brendan Rodgers had been sacked as manager of Leicester City after Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace
Rafael Benitez, Jesse Marsch and Ralph Hasenhuttl have all led sides to Premier League safety while Adi Hutter, the former Borussia Monchengladbach boss, would be a leftfield option.
Khun Top never wanted to sack Rodgers but with the club dropping into the bottom three after the reverse at Selhurst Park, felt he had no alternative.
‘It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan’s management,’ he said.
‘Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.’
The former Liverpool and Celtic boss is one of the best in Leicester’s history, leading them to the FA Cup in 2021 as well as consecutive fifth-place finish and a first European semi-final.
Khun Top added: ‘We experienced some of our finest footballing moments under Brendan’s guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach. His place in Leicester’s history is assured.’
