It’s amazing how emotionally intelligent dogs can be. They can form sincere and loving friendships with people and other animals… When a loved one dies, they seem to understand.
And just like people, dogs can go through their own grieving process. This was the case of a dog who showed his devotion by visiting the graves of his friends every day after their death.
Tricycle is a three-legged golden retriever who lives at Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
Living in the farm sanctuary, Tricycle has always had plenty of other animals to befriend. Dogs, llamas and alpacas are animals with special needs.
Major, a Saint Bernard/Mastiff mix, was one of the first animals he interacted with.
Sadly, Major passed away in 2016 and Tricycle seemed dead.
Major was buried at the ranch, like all dying animal rescuers, and given his own headstone. However, after his burial, rescuers noticed something unusual: Triciclo remained by the grave, mourning his old friend.
He visited her for about three days and her owners realized she was in trouble.
“Like many of us, there is a sense of loss that we all have to overcome,” shrine owner Lester Aradi told People. “Animals, like people, faint.”
Tricycle was seen crying over all the dead animals, revealing that he had more than just a special relationship with Major.
Trixie, an alpaca, recently died and the dog was discovered near her grave.
It’s a beautiful story that shows what true love between animals can look like and how dogs can have complex emotions, just like humans.
