Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie has confirmed she will direct her new film Unbroken in New South Wales.
The film is based on the story of Olympian Louis Zamperini, who survived 47 days in a life raft after a plane crash in World War II only to be imprisoned in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.
It is Jolie’s second foray into directing, after her 2011 film In the Land of Blood and Honey.
Unbroken will be shot in a number of locations in Sydney and regional NSW and is expected to create more than 300 jobs.
Jolie took several of her children scouting for locations around Tamworth earlier this year.
Jolie visited the Tamworth region last month, travelling to Werris Creek to look at a number of possible locations to be used in the film.
She also scouted locations in Queensland.
New South Wales Arts Minister George Souris says Jolie’s decision to film in the state’s north-west will be a big boost.
“Especially in the Tamworth district and the town of Werris Creek, where some of the streetscapes there are apparently quite useful in terms of mimicking a scene of WWII England,” he said.
“There are also some reports of aerial scouting occurring in the district, including in the Scone area.”
