She-Hulk star Tim Roth addresses Abomination’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and the one character he’d love to team up with.
After properly returning to the franchise last year, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Tim Roth is weighing in on Abomination’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future. Roth originally made his MCU debut with the second film in the comic book universe, The Incredible Hulk, starring as military officer Emil Blonsky who is subjected to experimental serum injections to match the titular being’s power, only to be transformed into the Abomination. Roth’s character would finally return after over a decade with a small role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings before a deeper supporting turn in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss the LGBTQ+ sports drama Punch, Roth was asked about Abomination’s MCU future. Though admitting he hadn’t heard any proper updates on if, or when, he will return, he remains optimistic about what comes next and has his own idea of who he’d like to be paired up against. See what Roth shared below:
I have no idea if they have anything planned. I’d be very happy to drop right into Deadpool. I would love that! [Chuckles] I enjoyed [She-Hulk: Attorney at Law], I was very surprised when they came along, and I definitely enjoyed it, so wherever they take me, it’s fine, as long as you get to play.
Where Roth’s Abomination Could Return In The MCU
Though the Disney+ series initially saw him finally freed from prison, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale found Blonsky going back to jail after breaking his parole and transforming into the Abomination for special seminars at his spiritual retreat. This prison stay didn’t seemingly last long, however, as Benedict Wong’s Sorcerer Supreme Wong portalled into Blonsky’s cell in the finale’s post-credits scene and invited him to stay at Kamar-Taj.
With Blonsky now freed from prison, albeit a far less villainous character than The Incredible Hulk, there are a number of avenues for Abomination to return in the MCU’s future. One of the possible places could be the Shang-Chi sequel currently in development as the first film’s post-credits finding Meng’er Zhang’s Xialing now running the Ten Rings. Given she previously utilized her intelligence to set up an underground fight club in which Wong and Abomination squared off, it would be interesting to see if she tries to forge an alliance with them.
The other seeming places for Abomination’s MCU future are projects either rumored or speculated to be in development, including a long-awaited Planet Hulk adaptation, set up by the arrival of Skaar in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale, or a Doctor Strange 3, considering Blonsky’s new home of Kamar-Taj. It has been reported that an alternate version of Abomination will appear in Disney+’s Marvel Zombies animated show, but is unclear if Roth will reprise the role as he will be a member of the undead. While audiences await word on his potential return, they can revisit Roth’s recent appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
