Graham Potter believes Mason Mount is struggling at Chelsea amid their poor run of form.
The 24-year-old starred for the Blues in the previous campaign, but his performance levels have dropped this term.
Mount’s form this season has been a far cry from the previous campaign
Potter has had his say on how the midfielder is feeling at the club
He has scored just three goals in the Premier League this season, with his most recent coming in December.
Chelsea are on a run of six games without a win, and Mount is one player in particular who is feeling their pain as of late.
“Mason has been great to work with,” said Potter ahead of their clash against Leeds.
“He’s been top. He’s suffering like the rest of us because we want to do better, we want better results.”
Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires next summer, but he has previously rejected a new deal worth around £200,000-a-week.
Potter was asked if his contract situation was an issue, but he had little to say on the matter: “In terms of the contract that’s between him and club.
Mount has made 32 appearances for the Blues this season
“I’m the head coach and I get on with my job to work with the players and help them improve. At the moment we’re not doing that as well as we liked so that’s the focus for me.”
Liverpool are confident that they will be able to sign Mount amid stalled talks over a new contract at Chelsea.
Mount was their star player last season as he amassed 29 goals and assists across all competitions.
His future at the club is beginning to look uncertain
However, with his and Chelsea’s form proving to be poor, he could very well be off in the summer.
Leeds are the next side Chelsea are hoping to beat in order to turn their season around.
However, Potter revealed they will be without Mount for the visit of the Yorkshire side: “Mason has had a problem with his lower abdomen area so he will miss the game tomorrow.”
