Gary Oldman is a star who has seen the years of cinema flow and change. Being Harry Potter’s Sirius Black brought him fame beyond reach. His range in films has been great and he is a respected and renowned actor. Robert Downey Jr.’s career came to life with Iron Man and much like Oldman, he also had one of the most iconic characters to play.

The Darkest Hour actor has been in numerous franchises, all iconic in their own ways. Even though he has been a part of them, there are some movies and franchises that don’t always sit well with him. He even finds them peculiar sometimes, no matter how famous they may be. A movie specifically parallel to Iron Man, Robocop made him come to this conclusion.

Gary Oldman Does Not Like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man
Gary Oldman once remarked on how Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man does not make much sense. To him, a film like Robocop was a perfect representation of the fusion of a person with robots and mechanisms. Iron Man was a movie that followed a similar concept. However, for Oldman, the movie was far from realistic in any way. Modern media and films have a unique way of displaying many concepts and not all sit well with Oldman.

“It’s a genre movie, but why does it have to be f***ing stupid? Like, Iron Man flies from Malibu to Afghanistan; that’s stupid.”
The actor took the entire genre into consideration and then compared the two movies together. He pointed out how intellectually Robocop surpassed Downey’s movie. He became a part of the movie after seeing how the director had chosen to approach it. Jose Padilha saw a way to turn Robocop the same way Christopher Nolan had done to the Dark Knight trilogy and that was enough to get him on board.

Gary Oldman Wants To Be Part Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Even though the actor has certain criticism for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the movies, he wants to be a part of them. Gary Oldman wants to be a part of the MCU at least once before he retires to cut it off his list.

He admitted that a major reason for wanting this would be his children. He has been waiting for the franchise to ring him up if they ever think the actor would be fit for a role in their movies.
