It’s a terrible, terrible thing when you’re a young child and no one from your school class shows up for your birthday party.
Angela Andrews was heartbroken that no one from her son Toxey’s class showed up for his big party in early April. It’s awful hard to see your child hurt like that, feeling none of his friends care about him. 21 classmates were invited. None of them responded.

Says Angela: “Just heartbroken and helpless. It’s the last thing you want to feel for your kid, that no one cared enough to come.”
So she posted about it on Facebook. What happened next she certainly could not have expected. Just two days later, when young Toxey arrived home from school, a caravan of state police patrol cars started lining the boy’s street just outside his Hot Springs Village, Arkansas home.
They brought out their K-9 friend, they brought Toxey a cookie cake. And they brought him several presents, including some video games, a basketball and a skateboard. Toxey was able to play with the K-9, named Rhino, and the officers let him play with the lights and sirens in their cars. Toxey said he even cried a little bit because of what those police officers did for him. And one day, he said, he hopes to be one of them.
Says his mom: “They ate his cake with him and played basketball with him. All out of the goodness of their hearts. They made my sweet baby’s day, and his year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never be able to repay the kindness you showed my family today!”

Officers showing up to make Toxey’s 2-day-after birthday a brighter one included David Forthman, Terry Sawyer, Kyle Sheldon, Brandon Cook and Tim Callison.

The Arkansas State Police wrote about them on its Facebook page, saying: “We all want to make a difference, and these troopers showed today that #kindnessmatters. We are so proud to call them ours, and thank you, Angela, for sharing this story with us!”
