The potential exists for Hulk.
The door is open for six huge Hulk fights to eventually happen in the MCU’s future. Having battled foes like Thor, Abomination, Thanos, and Iron Man, Hulk has already gone up against a handful of major MCU characters. That being said, Marvel still has quite a few powerhouses who have yet to be tested in combat by the Hulk.
In Marvel Comics, it’s become a bit of a tradition for heavyweights like Thor, Hulk, and Hercules to be pitted against each other in epic slugfests, even when it means making fellow heroes fight each other. During the Infinity Saga, the MCU utilized Hulk in a similar way, but it’s been a while since the character has had a full-length fight with a super-powered hero or villain of his caliber. That’s largely due to the fact that the Hulk persona has been repressed by Bruce Banner, who has been in control of their body since Avengers: Endgame. But, there’s no reason why the true Hulk can’t return one day. If he does, the potential exists for Hulk to do battle with six different MCU characters.
to have epic fights with six MCU characters in the future. Here’s how they could happen and who would win.
6 Hulk vs. Wolverine
One of the most iconic battles in Marvel Comics history can become a reality after Deadpool 3 brings Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU. If it ends with his character getting an extended stay in the MCU, Marvel could work Wolverine into any future projects with Mark Ruffalo’s character. Given how both are typically characterized, it won’t take much for tempers to flare and fisticuffs to ensue if a big-screen meeting ever happened. As evidenced by their famous fight in The Incredible Hulk #181, Wolverine has the resilience and ferocity needed to give Hulk one of his most intense battles. His adamantium claws give him a way of dealing out some massive damage, but the advantage belongs to Hulk regardless, as he still greatly outclasses Wolverine in terms of physical strength.
5Hulk vs. Red Hulk
In Marvel Comics, Red Hulk is the alter ego of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Marvel has yet to advance Ross’ story to the point where he can transform into the Red Hulk, but a chance for that to happen will soon come. Now played by Harrison Ford, Ross is confirmed to appear in Captain America: New World Order. Since the movie also includes one of Hulk’s biggest enemies – the Leader – as its villain, it seems the general is finally getting pulled back into the Hulk’s corner of the MCU. If that happens, Marvel may have an opportunity to give him his own Hulk transformation, which may or may not come as a consequence of the Leader’s scheming.
If the general becomes the Red Hulk, he’ll have a whole new way of accomplishing his original goal, which was to bring down the Green Goliath. Unlike Hulk, he has a tactical mind which he uses to his advantage in combat, thus making his immense strength a weapon that’s difficult to answer. Making him even harder to beat is the fact that he can absorb Hulk’s gamma radiation, which allows Ross to grow stronger just from fighting him. However, he has a weakness that could be his downfall. Rises in body temperature make him stronger, but if he gets overheated, he’ll run out of steam quickly. For that reason, the Hulk should win a prolonged showdown with Red Hulk.
4Hulk vs. Hercules
The obvious implication of Thor: Love and Thunder’s post-credits scene was that the movie was setting up a fight between Thor and Hercules, but that’s not the only MCU rivalry that can grow out of this setup. Thor may be Hercules’ principle rival, but the Lion of Olympus has also had some memorable clashes with the Hulk as well. Since he’s evenly-matched with Thor in the comics and has a reputation as one of Marvel’s strongest heroes, it stands to reason that he’d fare as well against Hulk as Thor did in Thor: Ragnarok. If that’s true, their fight could go either way, or perhaps end in a tie. Such a battle could happen if Hercules – much like his comic counterpart – tries to rein in Hulk during a future adaptation of Marvel’s World War Hulk story.
3Hulk vs. Namor
The might demonstrated by Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would make him an ideal opponent for the Hulk. The two being a match for each other makes sense, especially since M’Baku specifically described Namor’s strength as being on par with Hulk’s. Currently, there’s no reason for them to fight, but World War Hulk or another conquest attempt by Namor could easily change that. Plus, their personalities have a tendency to clash, so a fight could happen even if they wind up on the same side in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: The Secret Wars. Were they to come to blows, the winner would be determined largely by the conditions of the fight. Namor has beaten Hulk underwater, but Hulk would be in a better position to win if they fight on land only.
2Hulk vs. Kang the Conqueror
Hulk doesn’t share a rich history with Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Comics, but they do have what it takes to provide a thrilling action sequence if the two were to meet in the MCU. In The Incredible Hulk #135, Kang regarded Hulk as a simpleton incapable of stopping him, and looking at the arrogance expressed by Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, his MCU counterpart would surely be similarly dismissive of Hulk’s chances.
As for how their fight would actually play out, the odds could very well be in Hulk’s favor. Kang is obviously smarter and certainly has more tools at his disposal, but Hulk’s raw power is at such a high level that Kang’s advanced technology may not be enough. As powerful as Kang was, he ultimately couldn’t stop Ant-Man and the Wasp in Quantumania’s ending, which doesn’t bode well for him in a hypothetical matchup with the Hulk in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
1Hulk vs. The Thing
One of the biggest and oldest superhero rivalries in Marvel Comics could be brought to life in Phase 6 or beyond. No actor has been cast as the character yet, but there’s no question that the Thing is coming to the MCU in Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie. After Fantastic Four, Marvel will be free to explore a fight between the Thing and the Hulk, who have fought multiple times in the comic books. Whether it be the result of a misunderstanding in Avengers: Secret Wars or the events of a potential World War Hulk movie, the Thing can butt heads with Hulk as the two see which hero is really the strongest of the two.
For the most part, these battles end in ties, which could be how Hulk vs. Thing would be wrapped up in the MCU. But if the fight goes on and isn’t stopped by other heroes, chances are Hulk would emerge triumphant. As a powerhouse in his own right and someone who doesn’t give up easily, Benjamin Grimm would give Hulk all he could handle, but is unlikely to pull out the win in a no-holds-barred fight.
