The Mars Global Surveyor’s mission was simple: take interesting pictures of Mars and bring them back to be analyzed. The discoveries that were made thanks to it however completely changed the world’s view of Mars altogether.
During its second mission from Mars which took place on September 11, 1997, the Mars Global Surveyor snapped dozens of pictures of ancient rivers and meteor crates, but what really shocked everyone was the one singular picture of this supposed structure on Mars’s surface.
We can’t tell you for sure, but what we do know however is the fact that it is definitely artificially made. Even NASA couldn’t find the right words against this theory, ignoring it altogether. They did however acknowledge its existence, stating that it was in fact taken on Mars, but nothing else. We were stoked for the third mission on the Red Planet, to say the least, but sadly, on November 2nd, 2006, the Mars Global Surveyor met its untimely doom when it plummeted down into the abyss.
