When you’re hand selected as a global ambassador for Dior, it’s clear you have style. And Jisoo Kim from BLACKPINK has it in spades. Before the French fashion house tapped Jisoo as its new beauty and fashion muse early in 2021, the singer and actress dazzled the world with her signature floaty locks and playful elegance. A look that only flourished with Dior there to bolster her fashion arsenal, cementing her as a master of French girl dressing.
As Jisoo stans plunge into the BLACKPINK band member’s on screen debut in K-Drama Snowdrop, we thought we’d revisit one of Jisoo’s other mastered talents: the art of off-duty dressing. Be it French girl sophistication, pastels or cosy winter layers, Jisoo truly does it best and here are all our favourite fashion moments to prove it.
The French way
The beret. Few of us can pull off this quintessential French accessory and all attempts risk falling flat à la Emily in Paris. To the surprise of absolutely no one, it turns out Jisoo can, and paired with some impeccable tailoring, a tennis skirt and Dior’s iconic Saddle bag, this outfit is a stellar lesson in the hallmarks of French dressing.
A suit and tie combo worthy of Annie Hall, and a Dior monogrammed scarf to send this look into the future.
90s silhouettes
If you’ve only just stumbled across Jisoo, the first thing you will surely recognise is her love for the humble mini skirt: A-line, tennis or otherwise. It’s a style we’ve come to associate with the singer and actress, one that takes its cue from the 90s, especially when coupled with a pastel sweater or cardigan — which you will come to realise is a sure thing — and naturally, a Dior handbag.
A moment please. Here’s a perfect example of Jisoo’s ability to blend effortless French chic with the grungy 90s. While the curtain bangs, red lip, and crisp white shirt nod to our favourite Parisian it-girls, it’s her clean take on the leather coat that rounds this look out for us. A piece that shot to glory in the 70s before being revived in the 90s, and once again following Zoe Kravitz’s reboot of High Fidelity.
Cosy layers
When Jisoo isn’t centre stage or behind the flashing lights of a photoshoot or press tour, we get to see her more playful, cosy side emerge. Slouchy pullovers and wide-legged pants are her first port of call. And we’re convinced no one else has the power to make Crocs look this chic.
Romance
One thing all four members of BLACKPINK have in common is their natural prowess in the area of romantic dressing. As the face of Dior, this is an arena where Jisoo shines. Simple glam by way of a red lip, and monochromatic evening wear with whimsical tulle and motifs that hark back to ancient history are just about as romantic as it gets.
