Fans have hailed Manchester United defender Luke Shaw‘s ‘extraordinary’ comeback from injury after only just noticing the gruesome scar on his right shin following his horror double leg break in 2015.
He was on the receiving end of a forceful challenge from PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno during a Champions League match eight years ago that kept him out for almost a year.
The left-back has since revealed that he nearly lost his leg as a result of the tackle, and supporters were able to see the scar left behind by the surgery he underwent when a picture circulated on social media following United’s 3-0 win against Leicester on Sunday.
The image shows just how serious the operation was, and Shaw has been widely praised for returning to the top of his game after such a devastating setback.
‘The fact Luke Shaw was able to come back from this horrible injury and become the best LB itw at the moment is truly inspiring.

‘Man is a bloody WARRIOR,’ one fan wrote.
‘This is the scar from Luke Shaw’s right leg… yes, the one he broke 8 years ago. Can’t emphasise enough how magnificent it is to come back from this and play as brilliant as he’s been for a while now.
‘Extraordinary! I don’t think we appreciate him enough,’ another supporter added alongside a picture of Shaw’s scar.
Another fan agreed, writing: ‘Truly crazy when you see this picture and the fact Luke Shaw has bounced back from double leg break. What a player!’
Shaw is into his ninth season at United, and has had some tough periods aside from his broken leg.
He was regularly questioned by former boss Jose Mourinho, while he also lost his place in the side to Brandon Williams under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But the 27-year-old has silenced many of his doubters by becoming a regular for United and England this season, even filling in at centre-back on multiple occasions.

He has now become a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford, with supporters appreciating the dedication he has shown to prove that he is good enough to play for the Red Devils.
‘It hurts just to see the scar. That’s why Luke Shaw will always have his job for life at United and will always be loved by the fans,’ one fan tweeted.
‘Shaw… went through a horrible leg break but he never backs out,’ another claimed.
Shaw now has a huge week ahead, with United looking to see off Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday before attempting to end their six-year trophy drought in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle three days later.
