If you’re still reeling from the news of Disney’s The Little Mermaid remake, we’ve got good news for you. Clearly under-the-sea vibes are all the rage at the moment, judging by Kylie Jenner‘s latest red carpet appearance.
Just days after Kylie had us falling over ourselves over her glam-goth manicure (glossy black stiletto nails, in case you missed it), the beauty mogul has come through with another major monochrome moment which feels very ‘sultry mermaid’.

The 25-year-old has been all about the vintage Thierry Mugler of late, having rocked a striking mesh one-shoulder piece from the label’s autumn/winter 1999 collection at the CFDA Awards just last week.
Again, Kylie brought the 90s vibes to the fore on Tuesday night, opting for another piece from the Thierry Mugler archive at its Couturissime exhibition at New York’s Brooklyn Museum.
The retrospective documents the French designer’s bold shapes and unconventional creative approach and celebrates his impact on the couture world. Featuring “over one hundred outfits ranging from haute couture pieces to stage costumes, alongside custom accessories, sketches, videos, images by leading fashion photographers, and spectacular installations”, the exhibition aims to present an “opportunity to discover and rediscover the fantastical work of this multidisciplinary artist”.
Kylie wore a decadent black gown from the brand’s autumn/winter 1995 collection which featured the most show-stopping details. A winged bustier neckline, a shiny sculpted corset and a feathered fishtail skirt made for a winning combination. Plus, that exaggerated hourglass silhouette? It could turn a 1950s Hollywood starlet green with envy.

Make no mistake, the drama didn’t end there. Kylie also donned a pair of luxe opera gloves and the most striking headdress. With her dark hair swept up in a voluminous beehive, the reality star wore a dazzling headpiece which had a slightly ‘regal-alien’ air about it.
Another attendee who went for a dramatic ensemble was Julia Fox. The always-eclectic model went for a front-clasp micro blazer layered over an underwire cut-out bra, alongside an asymmetric slit skirt and a pair of glossy thigh-high boots.
Where Kylie and Julia are concerned, understated is simply not on the agenda – and we couldn’t be more glad.
