Arthur Curry actor Jason Momoa teases what to expect from Aquaman 3, assuming that it moves forward amid the looming changes in the DCU.
Amid the upcoming changes in the DCU, Jason Momoa reluctantly teases what to expect from Aquaman 3 before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom even premieres. The Arthur Curry actor is re-teaming with director James Wan with the long-overdue Aquaman sequel. Much has changed in the bigger universe that it exists in since the first film, with the DCU entering a new era with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm. Despite having no official word on Aquaman 3 yet, Momoa already has an idea of what it would be like tonally.
Speaking with Variety, Momoa is jokingly asked if Aquaman 3 can be a lighthearted fare and not be as intense as his new documentary, Deep Rising. Watch the clip below:

The actor’s reply is brief and effectively casts doubts about the possibility that they will be shying away from tackling darker and heavier topics in Aquaman 3. That’s assuming that it will happen. The DCU is about to undergo some major changes as Gunn and Safran hope to build a more cohesive interconnected franchise that has the legs to last for a decade.
“I highly doubt it. I’m too dramatic.”
Why Aquaman 3 With Jason Momoa Probably Won’t Happen
Gunn has been vocal about making some big changes in the DCU to build a more sustainable, focused, and organized franchise. Details about their blueprint are expected to be released in the near future, but previous reports claim that some franchises from the old universe will remain including Aquaman. This makes sense considering that the original film remains to be the highest-grossing DCU movie, earning more than $1.1 billion at the global box office. Just because the Momoa-led film series isn’t going to be wiped out doesn’t necessarily mean that Aquaman 3 will still move forward. There are ways to continue Arthur Curry’s story without doing a direct sequel to Aquaman the Lost Kingdom.
Depending on how Gunn and Safran plan to execute a soft reboot of the DCU, Momoa can serve as an elder statesman in the new franchise. His story could move forward by appearing in other projects, all while Warner Bros. establish other elements of the revamped universe, including a string of new characters such as Blue Beetle and Gunn’s younger Superman version. This allows the franchise to gradually evolve without simply pulling the plug on the old DCEU and losing everything that was working in it, including some brilliant casting choices like Momoa as Aquaman.
It does seem like Momoa will continue to be a part of the Gunn and Safran’s DCU moving forward. The actor recently took to his official social media to reveal that he has met with the new franchise leads. While he can’t discuss specifics about their conversation, he expressed excitement about his future in the universe, so it’s safe to say that he isn’t going anywhere even if Aquaman 3 doesn’t happen, at least in the near future. Perhaps Momoa can take on another role, like Lobo, all while waiting for his next outing as the King of Atlantis following Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
