Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has delivered a fresh team news update ahead of our Emirates FA Cup clash with Reading at Old Trafford this weekend.
The Reds will be bidding to book our spot in round five of this season’s competition, have already beaten Everton 3-1 to reach this stage earlier this month.
Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw all missed out during our most recent outing against Nottingham Forest in midweek, with Harry Maguire available for selection once more following his one-match Carabao Cup ban.
United’s players can be seen hard at work at Carrington, ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Reading.
Ten Hag was quizzed on just how his squad is shaping up, insisting he is confident with his options heading into tomorrow night’s game.”We always have issues, but I think tomorrow, we have a strong selection for this game,” said the manager, at today’s pre-match press conference.
”We have a good squad, we have depth in the squad, so we can cover things.”
Erik was again asked about Jadon Sancho’s availability, following his recent return to training, with the boss insisting the 22-year-old will be monitored closely before a decision is taken on any upcoming involvement.
“He is training with the team and we will see,” Ten Hag added. ”He is improving, he is making steps, we will make the decision after the training.
“He’s on the way back, he’s making steps, so he’s back in team training and now we have to see when he is ready to go back into the games.”
ArticleMeanwhile, in defence, it seems the impressive duo of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia could continue as the full-backs in our starting XI, with Brandon Williams also an option for Erik to mull over
“Dalot is definitely out, and I think also Shaw [is] a question mark,” said Ten Hag. ”
We have to see after this training session, after this day, if he [Shaw] is available or no
“I think Aaron and Ty are playing magnificent at the moment. On Wednesday, they were really brilliant. The whole back four was brilliant on Wednesday.”We are happy in the back four, we have depth in the squad. That’s what we need when you have to cover 10 games in 30 days and hopefully it will continue after that as well.”
