Jurgen Klopp rules out possibility of Liverpool defender leaving on loan

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the possibility of Calvin Ramsay going out on loan

According to TeamTalk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the possibility of young fullback Calvin Ramsay going out on loan during the January transfer window.

The report states that Championship sides Watford and Swansea City were interested in getting the former Aberdeen right-back on loan. But, Klopp has intervened to prevent any deal from taking place.

The manager wants the Scotsman to stay at Anfield till the end of this season as it would help his development going into next season. And that makes sense given we signed him to balance our squad depth knowing Neco Williams was going to leave last summer.

The 19-year-old has had limited opportunities to play for the senior team in his first season here. He has played a total of 93 minutes, none in the Premier League. Injuries haven’t helped his cause.

With an increased load on Trent Alexander-Arnold in the past few seasons, it was clever business by Liverpool to sign a talented young right-back and slowly develop him into someone who can constantly challenge for a spot in that position.

Although Ramsay’s first season at Anfield has not gone to plan, it is good to know that Klopp believes in him and wants him to stay here to continue his learning process.

Staying fit and constantly training with the senior side can also help the 19-year-old a lot in his bid to hone his skills and compete with Trent for minutes, even if the playing chances are hard to come by right now.

The Scotland international is a technical player who can impact the game on both sides of the field in wide areas. Of course, there are certain parts of the game he has to grasp while training with Klopp and the coaching staff here. But, with what we saw from him in Aberdeen (his previous club), the talent is there that needs to be harnessed in the right way.
